Organization
Louisville Survivability & Self-Sufficiency (LSSS) was founded on a simple but powerful belief: every person deserves the opportunity to learn the skills needed to provide for themselves, their families, and their community.
We believe self-sufficiency isn't about living in isolation or rejecting the support of others. It's about building confidence, learning practical skills, and creating stronger communities where neighbors help one another and are better prepared for life's challenges.
Our mission is to encourage people to take an active role in securing their future by learning how to grow food, conserve resources, prepare for emergencies, and share knowledge with others.
Why Self-Sufficiency?
Life is unpredictable. Natural disasters, economic hardships, and unexpected events can affect anyone. By learning practical skills today, we become better prepared for tomorrow.
Self-sufficiency means having the knowledge to:
Grow nutritious food
Preserve your harvest
Protect and conserve water
Prepare for emergencies
Reduce waste through composting and recycling
Share skills and resources with others
Strengthen your community through volunteerism
Every skill learned is an investment in a stronger future.
Our Vision
We envision a Louisville where community gardens flourish in neighborhoods, families have access to fresh food, people understand how to prepare for emergencies, and neighbors work together to build stronger, healthier communities.
Our goal is not simply to provide resources—we want to teach the knowledge and skills that empower people for a lifetime.
As our organization grows, we hope to expand educational workshops, community partnerships, volunteer opportunities, and hands-on projects that inspire lasting change.
Our Philosophy
One of the sayings that best reflects our mission is:
"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime."
This philosophy guides everything we do.
Rather than creating dependence, we believe in helping people develop the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to become more independent while strengthening the communities around them.
Looking Ahead
Louisville Survivability & Self-Sufficiency is just getting started.
Every new volunteer, partner, donation, and community project helps move us closer to our vision of a more self-sufficient Louisville.
Whether you're here to learn, volunteer, partner with us, or simply follow our journey, we're grateful you've taken the time to visit.
Together, we can build a future where knowledge is shared, communities are strengthened, and self-sufficiency is within everyone's reach.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
